The Challenge

Profiling Halifax’s unique personalities and rich culture while taking on issues that matter, Halifax Magazine celebrates and challenges our region’s most exciting city.

In updating halifaxmag.com, our challenge was to extend the city-lifestyle magazine’s fresh and sophisticated approach online with an extensive, user-friendly platform. The new site would need to support standard online ad units along with a wide range of content, showcasing select articles from the print edition as well as various web-only features.

The Solution

The redeveloped halifaxmag.com was built using WordPress, simplifying continuous content updates by the Halifax Magazine team and allowing them to manage the site with ease.

The new halifaxmag.com homepage houses a ton of content, using colour-coded headings and brief excerpts to organize over 15 featured articles in an easy-to-navigate page. The site’s design gives prominence to articles and paid advertising, reserving full-colour treatment to bring this content to the fore. The end result is a site that allows visitors to easily sample the latest from Halifax Magazine while being able to quickly search and access archived content.

In addition to featuring articles from the print edition along with special web-only content, halifaxmag.com integrates various social media tools – including a blogTwitter feed, and Facebook group – for ongoing connection to the magazine’s dedicated readership.

The Result

Since launching in April 2010, the new halifaxmag.com has garnered positive reviews from readers and advertisers alike. Moreover, unique visitors to halifaxmag.com have more than doubled year-over-year while the site’s bounce rate has fallen and time on site has increased.
