NSBI 2008-2009 Annual Report

The Challenge

How does an organization like Nova Scotia Business Inc use an annual report, generally a document used to promote achievement, in a year when many Nova Scotia businesses are struggling?

The Solution

Rather than suggesting NSBI had all of the answers, our team, working with Nocturnal Design instead asked these questions:

  • What is the potential upside of this economic downturn?
  • What can you do now to position your company for the future?
  • How are we better together?

These questions were asked of small and large business, government and educators. The responses were recorded as part of a series of YouTube videos that were posted on a microsite and presented in a toned-down print piece. Accomplishments were presented in a custom Google Maps mashup with pins scattered across the globe in The Year in Review.

The Result

The annual report as achievement document has long been the standard for this sort of project. NSBI took a risk with this piece by instead engaging with the people of the province and giving them a chance to comment via the YouTube videos. The response so far has been exceptionally positive.
