The Challenge
With a career that has taken her across Canada as an award winning country music artist AND a successful television host, Halifax native Stephanie Beaumont has always had a passion for the region she calls home. Combining her unique storytelling approach with her curiosity and love for Atlantic Canada, Stephanie wanted to create Sea and Be Scene – a website that introduces the world to the places and personalities of Canada’s East Coast.
Sea and Be Scene needed to draw visitors interested in exploring each of the four Atlantic Provinces by presenting a wide variety of content on the homepage. Going one step further, the site needed to be incredibly simple to administer client-side with a user-friendly CMS enabling the easy, ongoing entry of fresh site content.
The Solution
The project started with the design of a wordmark for the brand, with the objective being to create a simple yet distinctive mark. The resulting connected S ligature symbolizes the winding journey that visitors will take through the Atlantic provinces.
We developed Sea and Be Scene to have the capability of being extremely content heavy and ever changing. The homepage design gives prominence to the newest content and highlights the features of the site in magenta boxes. With an emphasis on flexibility, the site’s design and architecture allows articles, pictures, and videos to be used interchangeably on any given page, seamlessly integrated with social media sites including YouTube, Facebook and Twitter.
As a custom WordPress development, Sea and Be Scene can be easily updated via WordPress’s renowned backend interface as well as their remarkably easy to use, free iPhone app.
The Result
The Sea and Be Scene team has travelled across the Maritimes gathering hundreds of unique stories and interviews to be showcased on SeaandBeScene.com in a never-ending discovery of Atlantic Canada. Since launching in June 2010,SeaandBeScene.com has welcomed thousands of visitors as well as attracting several key advertising partners.
