Welaptega Marine

The Challenge

When Welaptega called on Kula Partners in June 2010, they were looking for a new website to reflect their expanded subsea asset integrity offering.

Welaptega’s recent innovations in the use of 3D video and modeling technologies have a wide range of application in making the offshore oil & gas industry safer. Extending the firm beyond their traditional mooring inspection business, this new service offering was opening up new markets and new opportunities.

Our challenge was to craft an online experience that would introduce this exciting 3D technology to the offshore without detracting from Welaptega’s long track record as a world leader in mooring inspection.

The Solution

During our initial discussions with Welaptega’s leadership team, it became clear that the situation had moved well beyond simply taking advantage of new opportunities with an expanded service offering. We discovered a company working to bring remarkably powerful technology to market that is being used to help solve some of the most pressing challenges in the offshore. We found a CEO who, in addition to being incredibly passionate about fostering a culture of safety and changing the way business is done in the offshore oil and gas industry, is also an extremely capable and charismatic spokesperson. And we saw an opportunity to tell Welaptega’s story in a new way to more people.

We began rolling out an owned + earned media strategy over the summer to reposition Welaptega’s subsea asset integrity offering and generate media coverage in the US market. The new welaptega.com launched in late-August 2010, incorporating the extensive use of video throughout and delivering it in high-definintion whether viewing on an iPhone or in a traditional browser. In addition, an integrated content planning and creation approach combines the creation of web content assets with media outreach activities and sales support.

The Result

The new welaptega.com launched in record time, presenting Welaptega’s suite of safe energy technologies including the firm’s impressive 3D capabilities and mooring inspection innovations.

The owned + earned media program is generating some early success, including interviews with major outlets in key markets such as the Houston Chronicle and The Wall Street Journal. National attention in USAToday has combined with coverage in local newspapers across the United States – from California to South Carolina – as well as in over 15 trade publications.

And the story’s just beginning.
